Not motivated? Got garbage? Clean up before 2008

Just a few days to go until the New Year, so happy 2008 in advance.

Many of you are thinking about what you’re going to do differently in your real estate business in 2008.

One of the most commonly asked questions is how do you stay motivated?  That’s something all of us face, because nobody wakes up at full bore red-lining their motivation level that’s not how it works.  The way it works is that you move forward and work towards your goals, even when you don’t feel like it.

If you’re not feeling motivated, if you feel like you’re drowning a little, chances are it’s because you don’t have a positive strong momentum going for you right now.  In other words, you’re looking at your desk and it’s a mess.

Guess what?  Nobody would be motivated in a situation like that, because when you’re looking at a mess like that it’s going to be overwhelming and ruin your motivation.

Here’s what you need to do.  Before the year starts, grab a garbage bag.  Chances are you’ll have to get one of those yard-size garbage bags and fill it with virtually everything on your desk.  How do you decide what goes in the bag?

Here’s the rule.  If you’ve already touched it twice and haven’t done it you’re not going to, so throw it out.  Do it, delegate it or ditch it.  Stop storing it.  You know you’re never going to use it.  Make your office clean.  Make it so there’s you, the phone and your goals.

What’s most important for now is, if you’re not motivated like most people it’s probably, because you’re feeling overwhelmed.  Start with a clean desk and office.  In the upcoming weeks we’ll talk about how to create massive action fast to get your year off to a great start.
