Hello,
You will want to read this…
By now you probably have read the very controversial post on the blog called:
(As I stated on the blog….I didn’t write that post. Jeff Corbett from Active Rain did.)
As a result of that post a real fire storm of heated conversation (debate) has
erupted. Its seems that many Realtors take serious issue with what Jeff had to say.
So, we interviewed Jeff as part of our Superstar Interview series.
I want you to hear directly from Jeff exactly what his intentions were for writing that post.
Needless to say, this was a very ‘interesting’ Superstar interview.
Here is what you need to do now…

Interesting… much of what Jeff is saying is available for free is only available for free because the real estate industry has built the infrastructure, keeps it up to date etc .. Clearly there could be a new system built that would have integrity and structure but it can only take place over a long time and at great expense .. obviously it will be much more efficient to modify the present system rather than starting over
It is as much a matter of educating the public as anything —- the public makes a lot of dumb decisions in terms of agent selection– unfortunately because most folks only are involved in a real estate transaction a couple of times and therefore do not educate themselves as to what they should ask, know and expect from a realtor.
I am much more in favor of allowing the market to work and those who are providing a level of service and expertise which may or may not include technology at a price that the market wants will prosper ….. if you are correct as to what is needed or going to happen in the future then the leverage of technology will hasten and enable the change. It seems to me that Jeff is advocating some sort of mandated change which I would oppose. If his ideas time has come it will be economically successful, if not it will fail as it has before—- there is a reason agents won’t show properties that do not pay anything — because under the present system they can’t afford to burn a good client for very little–in most cases there are other equal options that or just as good or better for the client as the low pay listings — it has been my experience that many of the flat fee listings are less well maintained inferior listings and the owners are harder to deal with….My wife worked for a flat fee company for a few years and was the top listing agent of 54 in the office … another theory whose time has not come…… if we are to survive on lower fees etc then much of the rediculous exposure to litigation for everything anyone can concieve of needs to be mitigated or disappear
I think you and I are on the same page….as Realtors (business owners) we should be ‘allowed’ to set up shop using whatever business model we choose. Let the market place determine our outcome….
