Mary J. Blige, known as the Queen of Hip Hop and Soul, has recently lowered the listing price of her so-called “royal lodge” in New Jersey to $8.88M. Blige bought this 4 acre, 18,250 square foot property at the height of the market in 2008 at the price of $12.3M but, due to low market demand, this estate and others in the tiny neighborhood of Saddle River, owned by celebrities as well, are being aggressively priced.

This chateau has all the exterior land, interior trappings of haute luxury and French styling. High, arched, floor to ceiling window treatments are repeated in high, arched hallways that transport you to one extravagantly sized room to another throughout the home. Natural light is further maximized by floor to ceiling French doors in all exterior rooms.  Floor to ceiling round marble columns stand in the two living rooms to harken our imaginations back to the formality of French countryside estates in the late 18th and 19th centuries. Stone wraps the home’s two story exterior and its accessorized turrets.

The living quarters of the house include eight bedrooms with his and hers sleeping quarters and relaxation areas in the master suite, 10 bathrooms (again, hers and his master baths with floor to ceiling encased marble and walk-in closets, two living rooms, two dining areas (one with seating for eight), a wood paneled library, private bar, home theater, large home gym equipped with both sauna and steam rooms and a half court interior basketball court, a sweeping staircase with hand crafted wrought iron railings and wooden steps, elevator and an oversized gourmet kitchen with two work space islands and state-of-the-art appliances. A lovely pool and adjoining pool house set in mature landscaping reinforces the overall luxurious setting of this estate.  There are also three two-car garages to accommodate six vehicles.

No doubt this exquisite chateau will attract another romantic buyer just as it did Mary Blige.  In the grand scheme of things, what’s not to like?
