Seems like “going home again” is the new trend. As we reported here a few weeks ago, Wayne and Janet Gretsky repurchased their “old” home where they used to live in LA’s Thousand Oaks suburb. This week crooner John Legend and supermodel Chrissy Teigen bought a penthouse apartment in their “old” used-to-be Nolita building and neighborhood in Manhattan on Broome Street.
Legend and Teigen live most of their lives in a contemporary Beverly Hills mansion they bought from Rihanna in 2017. (You might be familiar with this West Coast stunner from Teigen’s tweets, candid comments, images and videos in their luxurious mansion. And, by the way, Teigen announced her newborn son’s name, Miles Theodore, on Twitter.)
But since selling their small, second floor, one bedroom apartment in the Brewster Carriage House in 2016 for $3.9M, this gorgeous and talented couple has been hanging out in Nolita whenever they were in New York. Legend and Teigen seized the opportunity to buy again in this classic brick building.
The Brewster Carriage House was originally built in the 1850’s. Developers converted the six-story building into luxury, modern units with open floor plans, sweeping ceiling heights and exposed brick in 2015. This penthouse unit has three bedrooms, two billed as master bedrooms, a 133-inch motorized projection screen and wine closet, and a 2,000 square foot landscaped, private rooftop garden.
The previous owner of the penthouse unit purchased it in 2016 for $8.6M. Legend and Teigen acquired it for a reported purchase price of $9M.
This Broome Street neighborhood welcomes back Legend and Teigen. How nice for them to know the best haunts in their new/old home away from home.
