The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) took a look at how much money it takes to purchase a home in our country’s largest cities. The result? The 2018 NAR Metropolitan Median Home Prices and Affordability and Housing Affordability Index.

NAR’s data assumes a 10% – 20% down payment and a 4.8% mortgage rate for an all-inclusive principal and interest monthly home payment. NAR also assumes a house payment limited to 25% of the resident’s annual income.
