Americans are constantly on the move. An analysis by Commercial Café indicates where we’re going and where we’ve been.
Analysis of Population Shifts Spanning 2015 to 2019
We Americans are always moving. Maybe we’ve been forced out by rising rents? Maybe we’ve just landed a different job in a different place? Maybe we’ve started a family or maybe we’re about to retire and we want a more “suitable” city and/or place to live in?
What matters in the long run is that we Americans move…a lot.
Commercial Café analyzed data from the latest US Census Bureau from 2015 to 2019 to learn which US metros had the highest average annual populations gains at the expense of others.

Climate Matters
Metros with warmer climates beat out other metros from intercity moves.
Interestingly, Commercial Café only analyzed population shifts from metro areas and their suburbs metro-to-metro, not migrants from rural areas. This analysis also did not count migrants from other countries nor population changes due to births and deaths.
Even among metros with warmer climates such as the state of Florida, musical chairs among metros was the name of the game.
