Here’s a COVID-19 pandemic effort I’ll bet you didn’t know about…a secret military task force is preparing to “secure” our country’s capital in Washington DC as the coronavirus peaks in DC, Maryland and Virginia. (I hadn’t a clue about this either until I read about it in the April 14 publication of Newsweek.)

According to this “exclusive” in Newsweek, Washington DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered a one-month extension of the COVID-19 pandemic state of emergency in DC, Maryland and Virginia on March 16.
This little known (if known at all) military task force called the Joint Task Force National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) is charged with evacuating Washington in the event of “attackers” (both foreign and domestic) and also with relocating, when necessary, offices in the White House and other government agencies.
On the face of it, the JTF-NCR looks like “regular” medical support, supply delivery services and staffing health stations but behind the scenes, the JTF-NCR is responsible for “homeland defense” in order to ensure government continuity and the safety of military and civil leaders.
The nearly 10,000 uniformed personnel involved with the JTF-NCR report directly to the Secretary of Defense for “some” of its missions and “some” of the units that implement some of these missions are already on 24/7 alert and sequestered on military bases to help ensure their readiness.
Now that the JTF-NCR is activated, some might question whether or not these uniformed personnel are conducting secret missions or enforcements. The Pentagon insists, however, that the JTF-NCR is not.
Hmmph…sounds a bit like all those good and creepy espionage movies I watch.
Thanks to Newsweek.
