According to a recent survey by Lending Tree, nearly half of the survey respondents indicated they planned to move from their current location in order to reduce their living expenses. An even greater percentage, 64%, of remote workers indicated they are considering a move. Nearly half of all survey respondents regardless of their specific working situations, some 46%, say they plan to move within the coming year.
Tendayi Kapfidze, Lending Tree’s chief economist, said, “The economic crisis (caused by the COVID-19 pandemic) has adversely affected the finances of many Americans. Even those who kept their jobs and added to savings, via stimulus and spending less due to staying home, are likely worried about the stability of their financial position.”
When asked in this survey about why they were considering a move, responses looked like this:
- 44% – current home too expensive
- 27% – current home is too small
- 27% – looking for different features in a home
- 14% – want to live near family or friends
- 12% – would rather live in another part of (same) town
- 11% – don’t like property management where living
- 10% – want family or friends to move in with them
- 8% – want better school district and/or in-person learning
The most popular home features and/or amenities now considered important:
- Yard that not shared with others
- Larger kitchen since eating out less
- Office space for remote working and/or distance learning
