Sellers Realized 45.3% ROI on Original Purchase Price of Their Homes
In its Year-End 2021 US Home Sales Report, ATTOM indicated that home sellers across the country realized a profit of $94,092 on a typical single-family home sale in 2021.
This $94,092 return on investment (ROI) is up +45% from $64,931 in 2020 and +71% from $55,00 in 2019.

This $94,092 also represents a 45.3% ROI compared to the typical home’s original purchase price. This 45.3% ROI is up from 33.6% ROI in 2020 and from 30.6% ROI in 2019. This 2021 ROI profit margin is the largest since 2008.
According to Todd Teta, chief product officer with ATTOM, “What a year 2021 was for home sellers and the housing market all around the US. Prices went through the roof kicking profits and profit margins up at a pace not seen for at least a decade…No doubt, there are warning signs that the surge could slow down this year. But 2021 will go down as one of the greatest years for sellers and one of the toughest for buers.”
