It’s a dog’s world.

Pet Adoption Skyrocketed during the COVID Pandemic.

Some households that already had pets adopted more and some without pets became first-time pet parents.  Today, approximately 70% of US households or some 90.5M families own a pet, according to the 2021-22 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association.

Dogs are the most popular pet to own, by far.  Second to dogs come cats, fish and birds, according to www.petfoodindustry.com.

Recent Study Ranked 174 Large Cities as Best & Worst Places for Dogs

LawnStarter used four categories to measure the places that are best and worst for our dogs.  Walkability scores (the number of daily errands that could be done without using a car), environment (dog parks and dog-friendly trails), services (availability of local dog-walking services and hourly rates, and safety (crime stats and pedestrian fatalities) were the metrics used.

Data for the metrics came from AllTrails.com, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Neighborhoodscout.com, Petsitter.com. Walkscore.com and other LawnStarter studies.
