Real estate agents, WalletHub just released its 2018 report on the Best and Worst States for Women. This incredibly useful information points you in the right direction towards finding both successful working-women and successful women-owned businesses. All these women need a place to live, right?

WalletHub researched median earnings of women in each state, the share of women-owned businesses, poverty rates of women, high school graduation rates of women, female homicide rates, etc.

The Top 10 States for Women are…

Downtown City of Minneapolis, Minnesota
  1. Minnesota
  2. Massachusetts
  3. Vermont
  4. North Dakota
  5. Wisconsin
  6. Maine
  7. Hawaii
  8. Connecticut
  9. Iowa
  10. New Hampshire

Women in Washington DC had the highest median earnings at $32,355, twice higher than Hawaii, BUT also the highest unemployment rate. Alabama had the highest share of women-owned businesses at 22.87%, 1.6 times higher than South Dakota which had just 14.04% women-owned businesses.

As mentioned above in this post, South Dakota had the lowest percentage, 14.04%, of women-owned businesses. Nevada had the lowest number of women high school graduates. Mississippi had more women living in poverty than any other state.

Four states tied for the most disturbing statistic of all… Louisiana, Nevada, Tennessee and Alabama all have the highest rates for female homicides.
