ATTOM Data Solutions’ just released Q1 2021 Home Sales Report indicates that the typical home sale in Q1 2021 generated a profit of $70,050. This $70,050 was down from Q4 2020’s profit of $75,750 but still up +26% y/y from Q1 2020’s profit of $55,750.
The Q1 2021 home sellers’ profit of $70,050 represented a +34.2% ROI compared to the home’s original purchase price. This 34.2% was down from 37.1% in Q4 2020 but higher than 30.8% in Q1 2020.
This Q1 2021 report also indicated that typical profit margins rose from Q1 2020 to Q1 2021 in 88% of the metros ATTOM analyzed for this report.

– Nashville TN from 48.2% to 92.1%
– Boise ID from 60.6% to 102.8%
– Crestview FL from 23.7% to 58.7%
– Chattanooga TN from 38.1% to 72.5%
All-Cash Sales in Q1 2021
All-cash sales nationwide in Q1 2021 represented 26.5% of single-family and condominium purchases. This share of 26.5% is the highest level of all-cash sales since Q1 2019.
All-cash sales accounted for 22.9% in Q4 2020 and 26% in Q1 2021.

ATTOM’s Q1 2021 Home Sales Report indicated that selling homeowners had owned their homes an average of 7.94 years, lower than the century high of 8.17 years in Q4 2020 but higher than the 7.7 years in Q1 2020.
