Shaquille O’Neal, the legendary 7’1” basketball Laker, added another residential property to his real estate holdings recently. This time, Shaq chose a home in Bell Valley, near Southern California’s tony Calabasas, as another hat rack for the price of $1.815,000.
This extensively remodeled 1990’s estate sits on one acre of steep hillside. Consistent with Shaq’s physical scale, the Tudor style home features a faux-timbered, stucco exterior and a stone-faced turreted entryway. The double height foyer into the body of the house is surrounded with a curved, second floor gallery, a wine closet and beamed and vaulted ceilings.
Off the ground floor of the foyer are an office/library with wall to ceiling windows and shelving and kitchen. The chef’s styled and appointed kitchen with a spacious center island opens on one end to an informal dining space and on the other end to a welcoming, comfortable lounge with an angled fireplace and French doors that open to the outside. Also on the first floor, there is a family room/media lounge that sports a wet bar and drop down movie screen.
Shaq’s space on the second floor of this home includes a master suite with a sitting area, fireplace, two large walk-in closets, a 2-person glass enclosed shower and a jetted garden tub set. Tudor-style diamond paned windows enclose the bath area.
The second floor also has three additional guest bedrooms, one ensuite, and two others that share a bathroom.
A long driveway makes its way up the hillside to a three car garage, a semi-secluded patio and a lovely backyard with a built-in barbecue, dining terrace, fire pit, pool and spa. Lush foliage gives the space both privacy and intimacy.
Shaq’s primary residence is a waterfront mega-mansion in Isleworth near Orlando, Florida. Known as “Shaq Center,” the property is customized to Shaq’s tastes and talents. Yellow-blond wood floors reminiscent of basket court flooring, an Egyptian-themed cigar bar, huge aquariums filled with exotic fish, a full-sized indoor basketball court and fitness facility are just some of what makes this 33,000 square foot house Shaq’s home. Additionally, the resort style swimming pool complex nicknamed “Shaq-apulco” boasts a private dock protected by a full-sized Superman statue that stands sentry with security cameras.
In between the time period of the Florida property and the Bell Valley property, Shaq paid $1.15M for a 14.3-acre suburban Atlanta property. This property includes two houses for a total of 8 bedrooms and 8 full and two half baths. Just where Shaq hangs his hat at any one time depends upon his media responsibilities and his quite packed commercial ventures.
