Renovation Reality: What You Need to Know About Your First Steps!

Episode 2 tackles planning, permitting and demolition

Harris Superstar and Atlanta’s real estate expert, Collette McDonald, is back with Episode 2 of her new web series, Renovation Reality.  Over the next six months, Collette will walk you through the ins and outs of this Atlanta home renovation in the hopes that you’ll takeaway the realities involved in renovating a home.  It’s too important not to have all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed, so this week its all about the details of getting started on the right foot!

The first step is to assess if your project is worth it!  What will be you return on investment or ROI?  The best way to find out is to contact your local real estate expert.  If Collette is not in your market, she will find the right expert for you in yours!  You can’t skip this step because one of the other important questions to address is: Is this really a renovation or is it actually a tear down?  They only way to know that is to do the math!

Once you know that answer, the next question is, ‘How will you pay for it?’ Do you have the cash in hand to cover this or do you need a construction or renovation loan?  This is where you need a financial expert to help you weigh your options and determine what the best ones are for you.

The third step in this process is one that can be easily overlooked, but is critical if you don’t want problems down the road: hire an architect.  You’ll want to consider this any time you are changing the floor plan or footprint of the home.  Your contractor might be knowledgable enough in this area, but Collette always advises to use an expert at each stage of the process.

Now we’re really digging in!  Collette has much more to say and show you on this week’s renovation, so watch the video now and follow this series weekly to save yourself time, money and a lot of headache!
