Track ALL of your expenses.  Use an app such as Mint to help yourself.  If going over all your expenses seems too overwhelming, zero in on what you spend at Starbucks and Amazon every month.

Take Disposable Out of Disposable Income

What do you buy too-much of and then just throw away or recycle? Here are some likely trade-offs:

  • Trade paper towels for dish towels
  • Trade plastic water bottles for one reusable bottle or filtered water pitcher
  • Trade paper plates/cups for reusable dishes/mugs
  • Trade zip-lock bags for silicone storage bags
  • Trade single-use liquid soap dispensers for a bar of soap or liquid soap refills
  • Trade paying for leads for learning how to generate your own leads

Do You Have More Expensive, Sometimes Wasteful Habits Since COVID?

  • Are you still ordering out for meals and having them delivered rather than cooking at home?
  • Are you still paying too much to have your groceries delivered?
  • Are you still ordering too much of everything to compensate for being restricted due to inflated gas prices?
  • Are you still paying for subscriptions to services/publications you don’t use/need?
  • Are you still paying for leads given to multiple agents instead of cultivating your own leads?

Think “Less Often” Rather than “Never”

None of us likes to feel deprived so think about having something you want to have less often rather than not having it at all.

Rather than asking a cleaning or gardening service to come every week, consider asking that service to come every other week or once a month.

Rather than scheduling weekly out-for-lunch meetings with prospective clients, schedule weekly video lunch meetings and one in-person out-for-lunch meetings with prospects to seal the deal.

DO NOT CUT OUT THINGS THAT ARE GENERATING YOUR INCOME.

Look at what’s working (making you money) and what’s not.

  • If your marketing is working, don’t cut it. Just make sure your marketing is generating profitable results.
  • If you generate clients via your club membership, don’t cut it.
  • If your bi-annual client appreciation day generates new and/or recurring clients, don’t cut it.
  • If your paid/boosted social media posts are generating as much income as your free posts, don’t cut them.
