iPhones are seemingly ubiquitous for real estate agents. Now, all those agents addicted to their iPhones can use them to shoot and create 3D home tours, a required staple rather than an option in today’s world, with a new technology product called Matterport for iPhone.

Matterport, a leader in 3D technology, has just launched Matterport for iPhone which many see as a “democratization” of technology that once required a very high-end camera. Working with the Matterport Capture app, which users simply download onto their iPhones, real estate agents can scan a property almost as easily as taking photos with their iPhones,” read a company statement. CEO RJ Pittman said that the company’s newest product “…marks our first step to empower billions of smartphone users to try Matterport for themselves.”
Matterport for iPhone requires an iPhone 6 or newer model. The app is free to download. Users then need to create a Matterport account to use the technology. Once the agent captures and shares one space at no cost, the agent then has to pay for a subscription. The cheapest subscription plan currently goes for $10/month and allows agents to shoot and share up to nine spaces. A professional grade plan starts at $69/month.
Although Matterport is playing up the appeal of this technology to agents and brokers, Matterport for iPhone may be equally useful for designers, contractors, homeowners, insurance companies, appraisers, etc.
According to Matterport’s chief technology officer, Japjit Tulsi, “Matterport for iPhone marks an important milestone in our capability to create stunning 3D digital twins of any space using the phone in your pocket.”
“Soon,” said Tulsi, this technology will be available on Google’s Android platform.
