You’ve already decided you want to be the most successful real estate professional you can be. You’ve already decided that one of the things that will help you become the most successful real estate professional you can be is to hire a coach to help you. You’ve recently hired a real estate coach and you’ve just decided that you want to be your coach’s best client. Now what?
Congratulations! Since you’ve begun your real estate coaching relationship, you’ve already recognized that your coach has “been there, done that.” You speak the same language…real estate. Not only do the two of you speak the same language, you’ve recognized that your coach “hears” you. Aha, you might say. My coach is both well experienced and well trained. Solid experience and training lead, in your mind, to credibility. With the credibility thing covered, you can relax, lower you guard, listen to and learn from your coach.
Now, you have to help your coach help you. Wait a minute, you might say. Isn’t my coach supposed to be helping me? Why do I have to help my coach help me? Because coaching is a relationship and relationships take two actively engaged partners who give and take with and for each other.
How do you help your coach help you? By being totally transparent about your thoughts, your actions, your inactions, your fears, your strengths, and your weaknesses. Your coach is not a mind reader…you have to be willing to tell her/him the truth so your coach can help you.
Next, you have to admit that you don’t know everything and be willing to have your coach hold you accountable to the goals you’ve set for yourself as a real estate professional. Your coach will remind you what action steps you need to take today, tomorrow, next week, next month.
Finally, you came to coaching to get help in developing a plan for success and that requires discipline and systems. So, stop winging it! Use the tools and systems your coach has proven work by their own experience and by the results of their other successful clients.
Follow these foundational principles and you will become the best real estate professional more easily and more quickly than you’d have thought possible. And, not only will you have more fun becoming successful in real estate, you’ll also become a superstar client yourself!
