SmartAssets, an online financial model builder, calculated the total cost of five expenses associated with owning a home in an effort to determine the most affordable cities in the country. Those expenses included such things as mortgage payments and property taxes over 5 years, median income levels, etc. Additionally, SmartAssets factored in how long the person wwas planning on living in a particular location, how a person’s life style was affected by a particular location and whether or not a particular home would “grow” with the growth of a particular family.
