However, very few people actually take the time to create a real plan for their businesses and personal lives. Know this,  making this your best your ever is a choice.

Know that you are largely in control of your life experience no matter what is happening around you. You can succeed at the highest level no matter what is going on in the real estate market, the economy, politics, etc.

PART ONE: Accountability

1 – Personal Accountability.  Everyone says they want it, yet most people spend large amounts of their mental and emotional energy avoiding it.  The definition of accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions.  It’s the willingness to accept responsibility where most people go astray.

It’s time to OWN your goals for this year.  This assumes you’ve worked on what you want this year, how you’re going to accomplish it, and why this is important to you…if you’ve not done that yet, it’s time to complete your Real Estate Treasure Map.  If you have already done this, are you following it?

In the treasure map, you’ll discover:

*Your financial, physical, educational, spiritual, and family goals.

*You’ll create your ideal daily schedule.

*You’ll understand lead generation and create your own lead generation plan.

*You’ll know exactly what to do daily to meet or exceed your goals.

2 – Visual Accountability.  In addition to your letter to yourself, it’s time to get even more serious about accountability.  In the Treasure Map as well as Harris Rules, we discuss the effectiveness of Visual Accountability and show you how to utilize your White Boards.  Update your whiteboards DAILY.

3 – Practice internal accountability as if it’s external accountability.  What’s the difference?

Ever wondered why it is that your mobile phone is always paid and you always have gas in your car and food to eat?  Those are examples of external accountability; something bad will happen if you don’t cover those items…you’d never miss those payments, would you?  Even in the tightest month, you always find a way to pay those bills!

Internal accountability is different.  Everyone says they have a goal of saving more money or paying off consumer debt, and yet it’s a struggle to move the needle on those goals for most people.  This is because nothing immediately bad happens to you if you don’t do it.  You could go years without increasing your savings.  What would happen if you were sent a bill to pay money into your savings and if you didn’t do it, you’d lose your real estate license, or something else painful enough that you’d take it as seriously as you do external accountability, like having your phone turned off for non-payment.

To accomplish those goals that are more elusive because they’re simply up to YOU to do, you must start practicing internal accountability as seriously as you external accountability.

Take for example the average agent who MUST earn $5000 per month to cover their part of their household bills, such as the house payment, car payment, rent, gas and groceries and of course their mobile phone.  Everyone who survives more than 12 months in real estate figures out how to do that.

That same agent, who has completed their Real Estate Treasure Map, knows that they must earn $15,000 per month to meet or exceed their goals.

The magic happens when that agent takes the $15,000 as seriously as they do the $5000 that’s required just to pay their basic bills.  In other words, that $15,000 has to be made every month, no matter what, just as surely as the ‘survival’ money was made.  That’s the leap of accountability.  That’s how you meet your exceed your goals.
