Any new product launch for Apple is a big deal but this year, Apple’s new iPhone 12 series is a REALLY big deal. Why? Because when 2021 rolls around, there will be some 420M iPhone users who will have had their current iPhone for at least three years and will be ready to upgrade, according to Loup Ventures.
Industry professionals believe Apple will enter a new “iPhone super cycle” with this new iPhone 12 series.
The iPhone 12 series is introducing both the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro phones on October 23. In November, Apple will introduce the iPhone 12 Mini and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. We’ll discuss only the iPhone 12 and iPhone Pro phones in this post.
CNBC tells us that it’s been testing and comparing both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro for almost a week now. Both support newer, faster 5G networks (still in its early days), both have better cameras, both have great screens, both are more water resistant, both have longer battery life (light users can get through more than a day of use before charging plus you can get up to a 50% charge in 30 minutes with a 20-watt charger), and both have an updated design.
A word or two or three about 5G…Apple and other phone carriers are using 5G as a selling point. Currently, the common 5G network is sometimes faster than LTE and can also be a bit slower than 4G LTE (this will all vastly improve as the 5G network improves) but right now, 5G gives you much clearer FaceTime in HD, downloads of software updates and plays videos from the AppleTV app at the highest quality. Coming soon are faster 5G networks being built by Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T will enable downloading in seconds.
The good news right now is that you don’t have to worry about 5G on the iPhone…it has an auto-detect option that will use 5G most of the time but can switch easily to 4G LTE when streaming music or something else that may affect battery life. The other good news for now about not having to worry about 5G with an iPhone12 is that you’ll be ready when the networks become available. Essentially, you’re future-proofing your phone with either the iPhone 12 or the iPhone 12 Pro for when 5G networks truly kick in.
CNBC testers think the new iPhone 12s available on October 23 are more alike than different…super bright, colorful OLED screens for both phones and great stereo speakers which are great for viewing listing photos, your home tour videos and movies. Both phones are the first to support recording video in “Dolby Vision” HDR. You’ll be amazed at how much better your videos will look with this feature.
The iPhone 12 Pro has a few extras:
- Made out of steel rather than aluminum
- Extra telephoto lens that helps you zoom in without compromising photo quality
- A new lidar sensor that helps with depth and gives you both wide-angle and ultra-wide photos
- Also very light sensitive so you don’t need a flash at night
- Does double duty for AR so you can drop digital objects on top of “real world” reality
- Helps with accuracy for things like measuring – useful for you/clients to see if something fits in a space as it gives you length, width and height of something
Overall, CNBC testers think most users will choose the iPhone 12. Those who want extra camera tricks will be drawn to the iPhone 12 Pro.
