“Right after COVID hit, everyone just blasted out of here,” Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal said. “You could walk just in the middle of Columbus Avenue (on the Upper West Side) and I often did.”
The top destinations for fleeing New Yorkers were Long Island, New Jersey and upstate New York. The Hamptons, East and South, Montauk, White Plains, Yonkers, Great Neck, New Rochelle and Stamford were top spots as were Albany, Woodstock, Hudson, Rhinebeck and Saugerties.
